Fabulous/Fabuleux
2008, Computer software, position/movement detection system (Active RFID), custom sensor
interface (FSRs, gyros, accelerometers), digital projection, 5.1 surround audio

“Fabulous/Fabuleux” is a large scale interactive game that rethinks and reinvents the classic childhood game of “connect the dots” as physical movement in the three dimensional space of a room. A player or players use a soft sensor-embedded interface called “the squisher” to explore the extensive area in front of a video projection, using sound to navigate the game space inside the room. Discovering a series of connected, glowing “orbs” in the 3D virtual space on screen gradually reveals a three dimensional shape. Additionally, the game proposes innovative ways to use narrative in interactive productions. Progressing through the sequence of shapes reveals a provocative, poetic open-ended narrative, along with accompanying sound elements. An adaptation of a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen provides the basis for an updated consideration of vanity and redemption.
